How to Strategically Evaluate Australia. Perhaps the most efficient way of evaluating Australia is to consider key dimensions which themselves are composites of multiple factors. Composite portfolio approaches have long been used by strategic planners. The biggest challenge in this approach is to choose the appropriate factors that are the most relevant to international planning. The two measures of greatest relevance to travel and tourism services are “latent demand” and “market accessibility”. The figure below summarizes the key dimensions and recommendations of such an approach. Using these two composites, one can prioritize all countries of the world. Countries of high latent demand and high relative accessibility (e.g. easier entry for one firm compared to other firms) are given highest priority. The figure below shows two different scenarios. Accessibility is defined as a firm’s ease of entering or supplying from or to a market (the “supply side”), and latent demand is an indicator of the potential in serving from or to the market (the “demand side”). Framework for Prioritizing Countries. Demand/Market Potential Driven Firm. Relative Accessibility. Accessibility/Supply Averse Firm. In the top figure, the firm is driven by market potential, whereas the bottom figure represents a firm that is driven by costs or by an aversion to difficult markets. This report treats the reader as coming from a “generic firm” approaching the global market – neither a market-driven nor a cost-driven company. Planners must therefore augment this report with their own company-specific factors that might change the priorities (e.g. a Canadian firm may have higher accessibility in Canada than a German firm). Latent Demand and Accessibility in Australia. This report provides a detailed overview of factors driving latent demand and accessibility for travel and tourism services in Australia. Latent demand is largely driven by economic fundamentals specific to travel and tourism services. This topic is discussed in Chapter 2 using work carried out in Australia on behalf of American firms and authored by the United States government (typically commercial attachés or similar persons in local offices of the U.S. Department of State). I have included a number of edits to clarify the information provided. Latent demand only represents half of the picture. Chapter 2 also deals with micro-accessibility for travel and tourism services in Australia. I use the term “micro” since the discussion is focused specifically on travel and tourism services. Chapter 3 is also a stand-alone report that I have authored. It covers proxy pro-forma financial indicators of firms operating in Australia. I use the word “proxy” because the provided figures only cover a “what if” scenario, based on actual operating results for firms in Australia. The numbers are only indicative of an average firm wh

5 Ways to Carry a Goat: A Blogger's World Tour

5 Ways to Carry a Goat: A Blogger’s World Tour

$28.95

There’s nothing like a blog post to inspire angry rants from anonymous readers: it’s the talkback radio of the digital age. So why is Australia’s leading travel blogger Ben Groundwater setting out to put faces to his readers’ made-up names?  Armed with a backpack, a laptop and a cover story in case of emergency, Ben has a plan: to travel the world, relying purely on the kindness of his sometimes frightening, but always interesting, readers. After posting a cry for help on his blog, he has a globe-circling itinerary of apparently friendly strangers who have offered him their homes – not to mention their radio shows, hallucinogenic drugs, beachside eco-resorts and daughters’ weddings.  This is Ben’s chance to dig deep into the realms of his digital universe: Who’s out there reading his blog? Where do they live? What are their lives like? And how do you carry a goat home in Ethiopia? Over 14 weeks, 14 countries and about a thousand beers, he answers these questions and many more. Five Ways to Carry a Goat is the hilarious tale of putting virtual friendships to the test of reality.

Robert Cormier (pronounced kor-MEER) lived all his life in Leominster, Massachusetts, a small town in the north-central part of the state, where he grew up as part of a close, warm community of French Canadian immigrants. His wife, Connie, also from Leominster, still lives in the house where they raised their three daughters and one son–all adults now. They never saw a reason to leave. “There are lots of untold stories right here on Main Street,” Cormier once said.A newspaper reporter and columnist for 30 years (working for the Worcester Telegram and Gazette and the Fitchburg Sentinel), Cormier was often inspired by news stories. What makes his works unique is his ability to make evil behavior understandable, though, of course, still evil. “I’m very much interested in intimidation,” he told an interviewer from School Library Journal. “And the way people manipulate other people. And the obvious abuse of authority.” All of these themes are evident in his young adult classic and best-known book, The Chocolate War. A 15-year-old fan of his said, “You always write from inside the person.”Cormier traveled the world, from Australia (where he felt particularly thrilled by putting his hand in the Indian Ocean) and New Zealand to most of the countries in Europe, speaking at schools, colleges, and universities and to teacher and librarian associations. He visited nearly every state in the nation. While Cormier loved to travel, he said many times that he also loved returning to his home in Leominster.Cormier was a practicing Catholic and attended parochial school, where inseventh grade, one of his teachers discovered his ability to write. But he said he had always wanted to be a writer: “I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t trying to get something down on paper.” His first poems were published in the Leominster Daily

A Corkscrew Is Most Useful: The Travellers of Empire

A Corkscrew Is Most Useful: The Travellers of Empire

$19.95

In the early 19th century there was a huge surge forward in travel of all kinds. Queen Victoria’s accession in 1837 came barely a year after John Murray’s first guidebook was published. Then in 1838 Bradshaw’s famous portable railway timetable appeared. In 1841 Thomas Cook, the world’s first travel agent, organized its first tour. The age of mass tourism had arrived, and simultaneously, another phenomenom began to develop: exploration to wilder shores and uncharted lands. Such is the focus of this fascinating book which draws upon the extraordinary stories of Livingstone’s journey across Africa; Burton and Speke reaching Lake Tanganyika; John Stuart crossing Australia from south to north; Livingstone reaching the Zambezi; Richard Burton’s travels across Arabia; and countless others’ extraordinary and brave expeditions.

Constance Frederica Eka Gordon-Cumming (1837- 1924) was a travel writer and painter. Her parents were Sir William Gordon-Cumming, 2nd Baronet, and Elizabeth Maria (Campbell) Cumming. She was the aunt of Sir William Gordon-Cumming, 4th Baronet. She was educated at Fulham, London. She taught herself how to paint, and had help from artists visiting her home, including one of Queen Victorias favourite painters, Sir Edwin Landseer. After spending a year in India in 1867, she became interested in travel. Places she visited include: Australia, New Zealand, America, Hawaii, China, and Japan. Her best known books are At Home in Fiji and A Ladys Cruise on a French Man-of-War. The latter book resulted from an invitation to join a French ship put into service for the Bishop of Samoa so that he could visit remote parts of his far-flung diocese.

 A Lovely Day For Knitting

A Lovely Day For Knitting

$12.5

One day a chicken and a duck decided it was simply A Lovely Day for Knitting. The two friends gather up all the equipment they will need for knitting, starting with wool, knitting needles, and a knitting pattern book. Once they have everything together, they realise neither can actually knit!So the chicken and the duck travel into town to buy some knitted clothes that they can wear about the farm, and they live happily ever after in their tiny little sweaters. What’s the moral of this story? We spend a lot of time talking about doing things, but don’t actually get around to doing them. It’s a case of more being said than done. A nurse lecturer in Perth, Australia, David J. Stanley has now written two children’s rhyming books. “I was sitting on my porch while I was working as a volunteer teaching midwifery in Africa, and I was watching the farm animals that ran about the hospital compound. The idea just came to me. I had no ‘modern day’ distractions, so I had a lot of time to feed and exercise my imagination. As well, my mum has always been a keen knitter, so this must have found a nook in my mind.”Publisher’s website: http://www.strategicpublishinggroup.com/title/ALovelyDayForKnitting.html
