Living on a motorcycle?

A friend and I are considering purchasing a couple of motorcycles and going nomad. I wondering anyone’s suggestions concerning keeping our things safe. We both have hitchiked and lived out of backpacks an extensive amount so packing light is not an issue. so….

is hard or soft luggage the best bet for being able to pack more/keep stuff safe and dry (budget matters)

can you attach a medium size hiking pack to a sissy bar without throwing off the center of gravity too bad?

what about keeping an extra helmet (would love to pick up a hitcher now and again)

any other suggestions for long term Travel on a bike would be awesome maybe even what types of budget bikes are best as neither of us have ever owned a motorcycle before?

Ahhh to be young and adventurous. Many young guys dream of Traveling the states on bikes. Very few manage to accomplish this but I am envious of you guys tryin.

Go for it, Please—-look for a couple of used Honda’s, 600 +. Hard bags are better, but take whats on the bike and be happy. Packs will fit. A tent is good, but a tarp will work. Extra helmet will be no problem, and I’m sure you will find a young lady that is lookin to be impressed.

In the 70′s a buddy and I traveled w/ our girls—-had a blast. Wish I knew what happen to the pictures and his girl—–once again, Go for it.
